US Premiere Screening! Falluja 2004 Thu June 23 at 5 pm
New College Theater, 777 Valencia St, SF
Come to the first US screening of Falluja 2004 by Toshikuni DOI (55 minutes with English subtitles).
Japanese video documentarian Toshikuni DOI was in Falluja two weeks after the US invasion. He was one of the few international journalists able to show the reality of the cost of the invasion. Falluja has become a symbol of the resistance movement against the occupation by the US forces. In April 2004, the US forces invaded Falluja with several thousand US soldiers. About 730 people were killed and 2800 were injured in the siege and attacks by the US military in one month. He interviews medical workers and teachers as well as people in the community about this horrendous assault and the cost of it for the people of Falluja.
Why did Falluja become the base of the resistance against the occupation? How did the US forces attack? Who fought against them and what injuries and damages did the people suffer will be exposed in this important film. Only 10 days after the siege of the US forces had been lifted, Toshikuni DOI went to Falluja and investigated the site. Footage was recorded in August 2003 (4 months after the siege) and in May 2004. Falluja today is off limits for all press and the US military prevent any record of what is going on and what went on.

# Stop corporate takeover of San Francisco Housing!
Thu June 23 6:00 PM SF City Hall Room 400 94102 Polk @ Grove
The city is planning on redeveloping the 6th street corridor and mid market area. Tomorrow, the planning committee in charge of this development will gather to discuss whether or not to privatize this redevelopment. The corporation that is vying for the project is the same company that has created "affordable housing" in the Fillmore district. They argue that they will develop affordable housing but base that title on the median income of San Francisco which is a whopping $75,000 a year. This agency has also destroyed the housing of over 5000 of the poorest San Franciscians (and we wonder why we have such a high rate of homelessness?!)
Furthermore, If this development agency gets handed the project, we will effectively be taking all power away from elected officials and residents of the neighborhood to have any say in what kind of development is brought in.
Want to find out more? Check out link for an article written by Randy Shaw, a housing rights activist in SF.
Please come to the meeting tomorrow and show your solidarity with low income residents and small business owners in the Mid Market area! The planning committee is committed to making a final descision tomorrow, so we need as many folks there as possible. Help save low income housing in San Francisco!

The League is having it's next General Meeting this Thursday, and we'd love to see some fresh, new tribe faces there. We're getting together for a potluck at 6:30 and then starting the meeting at 7:30.
Here's some of what we'll be talking about:
- Our campaign to get public financing for the SF Mayor's race.
- Our grant proposal to lead a class at City College SF to organize and educate students in local politics.
- The San Francisco SweatFree ordinance that is being introduced next week.
- Our plan to hire a part-time organizer to organize our asses.
The League is full of smart, motivated, sexy people, and it looks like we're actually going to be a productive group that gets stuff done and throws some rocking parties.
Please drop me a line if you have any questions about what the League is up to.

# 6/24: critical mass (santa cruz) geekwarbeldork@yahoo.com
I think that there should be more of a critical mass following in Santa Cruz, and I am very disappointed that there isn't.
If anyone would like to be involved, get one started, or just go for a nice bike ride once a month with a group of like minded individuals, please show up with your bicycle.
We should meet at the clocktower around 5:30 to avoid rush hour traffic...
you can email me too if you have suggestions or questions.
PS-this is a PROTEST! Anti war, anti car protest! Please come and show how you feel about the war.
 UPDATE 5/21/05:
I've received a few emails regarding critical mass. I've heard that some people are meeting on the FIRST friday of the month, and some are meeting on the LAST friday of the month! Let's please combine forces!
The rest of the critcal masses held in the US are on the last friday of the month. I say: let's do it then. Make more of a statement (hopefully)... plus it would be a nice way to end the month. RECAP: Critial Mass
 LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH
MEET AT THE CLOCKTOWER AT 5:30 PM.
 BRING:
 1. Your bike
 2. Some water
 3. A helmet (if you have one), and any bike accessories you want to bring with you.
 4. A good attitude!

# DanceJam in Berkeley Friday, June 24 8:30 PM Dwight & 8th St
--On Friday, June 24 8:30 PM- 12:30 AM a six-member band playing East Indian-influenced dance music in the "Warm Room" at DanceJam in Berkeley. The band includes myself (sarod, harmonium), Jeff Palmer (sitar, dilruba, flutes, tabla), Jason Parmar (tabla, percussion), Shams Kairys (violin), Ken Becker (cello, electric bass), and Taressa Bell (vocal). DanceJam is located at 2525 8th Street (between Dwight and Parker Streets). Cost is $7 before 9 PM and $8 thereafter. There are two dance floors. The evening begins in the large DJ room at 8:30 with slow stretching/yoga type music perfect to check in with yourself and get grounded. At 9 PM the pace picks up and cycles on the upside. In the Warm Room which opens at 9:30 PM the pace is slow throughout the evening--ideal for movement/contact improvisation/stretching/relaxing/napping, etc. This could be a perfect outing, particularly if you haven't been dancing in a while and/or have never checked out DanceJam.

In these sessions, a platform was provided for people from Iraq, as well as experts and activists to articulate their concerns and demands and to present their reports.

The Istanbul session of the Tribunal will consist of three days of hearings investigating various issues related to the war on Iraq, such as the legality of the war, the role of the United Nations, war crimes and the role of the media, as well as the destruction of the cultural sites and the environment. The session in Istanbul is the culminating session of commissions of inquiry and hearings held around the world over the past two years. # This is just a friendly little reminder that the next Really REALLY Free Market takes place THIS Saturday, June 25th, from 12Noon to 4pm in Dolores Park.

This will be the third monthly RRFM. This month's Really REALLY Free Market is taking place the same day as the San Francisco Dyke March, which gathers in Dolores Park and has their rally there starting 3pm, with the march setting out at 7pm.
http://www.dykemarch.org/SFO/index.html

The location of the Really REALLY Free Market may move slightly just for this time so as not to interfere with the Dyke March Rally. Rest assured though, it should be easy to find, somewhere on the Dolores Street side of the park.

So come to the Really REALLY Free Market, stay for the rally, and then joined the march (men are asked to support the march from the sidelines).
See you Saturday!

The Really REALLY Free Market!
The Last Saturday of EVERY Month!
Dolores Park 12-4pm Dolores St @ 19th St.
website: http://www.reallyreallyfreemarket.org
email: reallyfreemarket@mutualaid.org

What is The Really REALLY Free Market?

It's like a large community-wide garage sale, except everything is FREE! Yes, that's right, FREE! Everyone is invitied to bring things to GIVE AWAY!

So this is like bartering or trading, right?
Nope. Bartering and trading go something like this:
I've got this great shirt here, what can you offer me for it?

The RRFM goes something like this: I've got this really great shirt here. I don't really wear it anymore, but I'd hate to see it go to waste. Do you want it? Great! Here, it's yours!

Why would i want to do a thing like that?
Because you have to many things already! Because you're just going to throw it away anyway. Because it FEELS GOOD!
Do you have things cluttering up your home? Maybe some stuff that you don't use anymore, but you know that someone else would probably love. One person's trash can truly be another person's treasure!

What should I bring?
Bring *your thing* to the RRFM, whatever that is! Material goods, food or drinks, a service to provide, a skill you have that you want to teach to others, a performance, or anything else!

What if I don't have anything to give away?
Everyone has something to give to others. The RRFM isn't just about giving away *stuff.* What is it that you do? Why not come to the RRFM and find a way to do it for others, except this time for free just for the fun of it. As a gift to others, as a gift to yourself. It's a way of reclaiming meaning in your job, to give it as a gift, unmediated by commerce.

Who runs the RRFM?
Well, the RRFM consists of the sum of its participants. The gift you bring to the event, helps create what the event is for others, just as what others bring to the event, creates what the event is for you.

That said, there are some folks who came together to help create the structure for the RRFM to work. But it is our hope that soon enough, our role within the RRFM will be the same as everyone else's. That is, that each of us decides our own level of involvement.

The RRFM is yours! Take advantageous of that. Make it what you want it to be! If you want to see something happening at the RRFM that isn't already happening, than make it happen! If you want to see more people coming to the RRFM, help spread the word! Send emails to your friends, make and distribute flyers (make your own or download them from the website), talk to people about the RRFM.
----

Please help us keep the RRFM a 100% FREE and non-commercial event. Once a month, let's come together and forget about trading, bartering, and money. Leave the business cards at home and remember the joy of giving for the sake of giving.

Help us keep Dolores Park clean. If no one takes what you brought, please bring it home with you.

If you like what you just read, get involved! Come to the RRFM! Bring your own gifts to share! Spread the info, and get more people involved! The RRFM takes YOU to make it happen.

# BURNING RIVER – June 25 & 26 Saturday & Sunday, 2 hours north of the Bay Area on the Upper Cache River Can you imagine 100+ Burners on a fabulous, hot, sunny day on the river?  We can dress in crazy attire, have water battles (Super Soakers are a must), chill out on the beaches and just enjoy being in a wet, tree-lined environment with amazing scenery right before our eyes.  Once you are on the river, there is nothing to do but have fun and relax.  All meals are taken care of and all gear is sent ahead.  The most you have to worry about is loosing your paddle and having to swim. At night, we can put on the Bling!Bling!, light up our e-poi/e-staffs while dazzling the natives by the river's edge.  With a little coordination, we could set up our own cozy village with a community bar among the trees and deeply connect with one another. If we get enough interest, we may be able to take over one campsite for ourselves (run the music, stay up all night, etc.) and have leverage to book a campground on the way for the preceding Friday night stay or perhaps negotiate discount rooms at the local casino for Friday night.  Stay tuned for these opportunities… This is an all-inclusive, family-oriented (12 yrs +/min. 65 lbs.) event so we encourage you to bring the whole Burner family and to post this announcement out to other Burner communities.  The company running it has Burners on the payroll but the guests will be a mix of Burners and non-Burners – our goal is to make it mostly Burners! The scheduled trip includes 2 days of volcanic river canyon rafting (rated class 3 but is mostly class 2) in either a 2 person 'ducky' or a 4 persons raft.  The $139 pp fee includes all on-river meals and evening entertainment, life jacket, camping fees, parking, raft rental, paddles and shuttle service.  There will be some free tickets for those in our community who cannot afford this adventure but passionately want to attend. 2 hours north of the Bay Area on the Upper Cache River. burningriver_ca@yahoo.com See you on the river! Reclaiming WITCHCAMP 2005
JOIN US IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA,
MENDOCINO WOODLANDS
Sunday 26th June through Sunday 3rd July 2005
SHARE IN A WEEK OF RECLAIMING STYLE, EARTH BASED SPIRITUALITY AND MAGIC
This is an extraordinary event for extraordinary people.
Come and study magic and ritual in a week long intensive.
Witch Camp is offered to women and men at all levels of experience. Newcomers can learn the basic skills of magic and ritual, working with the elements, movement, sound and the mythological and historical framework of the Goddess Tradition. Advanced classes offer the chance to apply the tools of ritual to personal healing and empowerment, or a focus on taking the Craft out into the world, creating public ritual, ongoing groups, and healing issues surrounding leadership and power. This event is a deeply moving, life changing week and also a constant experiment in temporary village life. We will also look at ways of bringing this work and inspiration into our everyday lives. Creating powerful, joyful times.
This year Witchcamp will be held at the Mendocino Woodlands, located just far enough outside the town of Mendocino to avoid coastal fog. The camp is set among a mature Redwood/Douglas Fir forest, creating a beautiful, peaceful setting. The cabins are rustic, but pretty. Camping is also an option. A small river runs through the camp, which is actually the home of steelhead trout. For a brochure you can email info@madroneproductions.com

Looking at our shadows and brightness, with love and compassion.
Camp Story 2005 "The Loathly Lady"
The Tale of the Loathly Lady. The most noble, the most hideous, and the most mysterious are woven into our Tale of the Loathly Lady. Gawain, Arthur, and the mysterious Witch invite us to consider what is beauty? What is ugliness? What is honor??? What is sovereignty?? what is authority???What is personal authority? What is self-determination? Where is desire best satisfied? Together we will unwrap this story of its patriarchal and heterosexual veils to discover the moist life within. Join us as we ride off to Shining Camelot (of Mendocino), again. ?

# SAVE THE DATE! June 30, 7:30pm Party at 1015 Folsom in San Francisco
Come out and join us as we celebrate the announcement of the Tribe25!

We asked our members a while back to tell us who the most interesting--and underappreciated--people were in the Bay Area. Well, you've spoken!

This party will celebrate your choices, as well as showcase the important improvements we're launching soon in how our profiles work on the site. All of these folks are using our new profiles to the maximum: to blog, link to sound files, post photos, link to other parts of the web, and customize to their heart's content. We know who all 25 of these people are, but we're keeping the secret for a bit longer!

Details:
	• Location: 1015 Folsom (site, tribe)
We' ve just been down there to check on all the cool renovations they're putting in. It's gonna be great!

	• Doors open at 7:30pm.
A free drink for each of the first 100 people to show!

	• $5 Cover (Free for Members)
We’re going to charge $5 at the door, but admission is FREE for tribe.net members. Just print your tribe.net profile page and show it at the door (no matter how funky the print job turns out).

	• All door proceeds will benefit the Hopscotch Network.
The Hopscotch Network mobilizes socially conscious young adults to support established non-profits dedicated to improving the lives of children through educational and life-improving support.

	• Performances by:

Will Franken (site, tribe) is "a psychedelic collision of satire and absurdity, blind rage and delicate lyricism...tailor-made for anybody who's ever hated mainstream stand-up comedy."

Suhaila Dance Company is led by Suhaila Salimpour (site, tribe), whose unique background has prepared her to become one of the world's most sought-after performers, teachers, and choreographers of traditional Middle Eastern dance.

Scissors for Lefty (site) -- their last album was "a polished and multi-layered exploration of danceable beats, synthesized textures and industrial riffing...with early Bowie-esque vocals and dark sensibilities."

Dhamaal Electronic Artist Collective (site, tribe) "has been feverishly pushing forward hybrids of South Asian and world culture for the last 6 years." Read their rave reviews on tribe.net.

Folks this will be like all of our previous parties but spiked with red bull, rockstar and mountain dew. From the city-renowned sound quality of 1015 Folsom to the twisted comedy of Will Franken and worldly beats of the Dhamaal collective, we'll keep your head spinning. It'll be the cat's pajamas, it'll be cracker jacks and daisy dukes, it'll be raining fantasia and it'll all be under the tribe.net umbrella! See you there!

# ALL EMPIRES MUST FALL!
West Coast Anti-Capitalist Mobilization Against the G8
July 6-8, San Francisco http://indybay.org

Call for a West Coast anti-war and anti-capitalist mass convergence, July
6-8 of 2005 in San Francisco, in solidarity with the mobilization against
the Group of Eight (G8) summit in Scotland.

From July 6-8, 2005, the annual G8 summit we be held at Gleneagles Hotel
in Scotland. The G8 is a forum of the rulers of the eight most
industrialized, wealthy, and powerful states in the world. Every year
they meet to discuss how to further their interests, expand their empire,
and tighten their grip on every aspect of our lives. The consequences
effect us all, and their economic success comes at our expense. The G8
exists to manage and maintain a system whose impacts we see all around
us: war, genocide, wage slavery, mass poverty, structural racism, famine,
environmental destruction, colonial domination in Africa, Asia, & Latin
America, social alienation, and accelerating attacks on working people
around the world.

But resistance is growing across the globe, in struggles as diverse as
they are numerous. And in recent years, everywhere the G8 has met huge
movements of people have confronted them, both demanding systemic change
and fighting for a global social revolution.

In recognition of the call to action by Peoples' Global Action for Global
Days of Action to be held against the G8, we are mobilizing for a
regional convergence here in San Francisco. We are calling on everyone
ready to fight for a better world - workers, students, revolutionaries,
anti-capitalists... - from across the North American West Coast to
converge and manifest their resistance on the streets. A Mid-West
regional convergence is being called for Kansas City, and East Coast in
Richmond, Virgina.

Our convergence will be in solidarity with those descending upon the
streets of Scotland to face the G8 head on. We act in solidarity with
revolutionaries taking to the streets to defend working peoples' lives all
around the world: the struggle against neoliberal privatization in
Bolivia; against transit fare increases in Brazil, Chicago, and San
Francisco; against the Minutemen along the border; and against the PG&E
power plant in Hunter's Point.

Global capital will show the full force of its domestic military
capabilities in Scotland - we can confront these summits on our own terms,
and this mobilization is a step in that direction.

Capitalism is everywhere, but so are we - we will converge in our city and
fight it on our own terms!

# Psyche Wall + Django Chapel: Opening Reception Thu July 7 6-8 pm Free
New Langton Arts premieres two installations that exploit both digital manipulation and sculptural installation as points of departure, July 6 to August 6, 2005. Psyche Wall, by New York artist Jacob Hartman, and Django Chapel, by the San Francisco-based collaborative team of Jarrett Mitchell and Mary Elizabeth Yarbrough, use technology as a foundation to explore how viewers perceive art in the gallery setting. Hartman's installation uses sculpture, photography and video to simultaneously create and subvert visual illusions, appropriating film production methods to alter sensory perceptions of reality. Mitchell and Yarbrough's installation features sculpture, video and paintings inspired by Giotto's Arena Chapel in Italy and Corbucci's spaghetti western Django.
